Rosana - Llegaremos a tiempo
Rosana Arbelo es española.
If they destroy the child that lives in all of us,
If they remove you from the breast and change your story
Do not swallow the sorrow, because we are not dead.
Our time will come, our time will come.
If you anchor your wings, to the dock with the wind
I'll wait for you a moment at the edge of time
You will come when you've gone beyond the limit
Our time will come, our time will come.
If they embrace with walls, unlock your heart
Do not let them tie your breath in knots
No standing and waiting for the chance to color
For life is two brushes and a blur
I fear they have broken your spirit
For freedom stays without wings
I fear for a day without tomorrow
I fear that fear, you can take a pulse and more
Do not yield, do not feel without hope
If they rob you of the land of your dreams
There is always the path that beats inside
If you fall you can rise, if you come closer to your hope
Our time will come, our time will come.
Better slowly I stood, unlocking the heart
Do not let your imagination be tied in knots
No standing and waiting for the chance to color
For life is two brushes and a blur
I fear they have broken your spirit
For freedom stays without wings
I fear for a day without tomorrow
I fear that fear, you can take a pulse and more
Do not yield, do not feel without hope
Only they can with you, if you just yield
If they fire away and kill what's inside you
You will come when you've gone beyond the limit
Our time will come, our time will come.

Oye Como Va - Yo, How's it going
A classic song written in 1963 by Tito Puente and made popular by Santana in 1970.
In French one often says, "Comment ça va ?" In Spanish the words sound like, "Como se va." The Spanish phrase doesn't translate the same. Might one say "Como lo va?" Instead one uses the equally sonorous, "Que pasa" o "Que tal". Tito Puente and Santana demonstrate that the phrase como va has other uses.
One should not read too much into the lyrics. I think Tito and Carlos were into the music and the rhythm. Tito's use of mulata for a woman demonstrates the mixed culture of Puerto Rico and nothing more.
If you are looking for subtleties of lyrics try listening to No te va gustar. Even though the lyrics suggest that you aren't going to like it, you will. Escucharlo es amarlo.
Oye como va, mi ritmo
Bueno pa' gozar mulata
No Dudar
Oye, how goes my rhythm.
It's good to enjoy, mulata (a mixed race woman)
No doubt.

Amado mio - Luz Casal & Quatuor Ebene
"Tengo bailar la tango," something every Buenos Airien says, I suppose. She is a Spanish pop singer, who tours internationally. She grew up in the Asturias of Spain, a region that provided the original spark for the Reconquista. Luz Casal. Quatuor Ebene is a French string ensemble that defies definition. Quator Ebene.
The lyrics are not difficult to translate into English. The lyrics are for the most part present tense with a little future thrown in. "Te quiero tanto" is perhaps "I am loving you forever," but in English we tend to put it in the future tense, "I'll love you always."
My beloved, I'll love you always. You'll never know how much, you will never know how. If I get you, my beloved, always be with me, never leave. The pain that I have, my beloved, to be at your feet, to always be for you...
Amado mío
Te quiero tanto
No sabes cuanto
Ni lo sabrás
Si te consigo
Amado mío
Siempre conmigo
Te quedarás
Dolor que tengo
Amado mío
A tus pies esta
Para ti será
Para ti lo guardar
Todo lo que tengo
Amado mío
Desde que te ví
No me sirve a mí
Sé muy bien al porque
En tu mirada
A veces veo
Un buen deseo
Y nada más
Amado mío
Te quiero tanto
No sabes cuanto
Ni lo sabrás
Todo lo que tengo
Amado mío
A tus pies esta
Para ti será
Para ti lo guardar
Todo lo que tengo
Amado mío
A tus pies esta
Para ti será
Sé muy bien al porque
En tu mirada
A veces veo
Un buen deseo
Y nada más
Amado mío
Te quiero tanto
No sabes cuanto
Ni lo sabrás
Siempre conmigo
Te quedarás
Siempre conmigo
Te quedarás.

Mercedes Sosa - Gracias a La Vida
Mercedes Sosa fue una cantante de música folclórica argentina, conoce como "the voice of the voiceless". Palabras de Violetta Parra.
The lyrics combine present tense and present perfect.
Thanks to a life that has given me much It gave me two eyes, that when I open, Perfectly distinguish black from white And in the high heaven above, her starry backdrop And amongst her multitude the man that I love Thanks to life that has given me much Given me sound and the alphabet; With the words I think and declare: Mother, friend, brother, and shining-light The path of my soul that I love Thanks to life that has given me much Allowed me to walk with my tired feet; With them I walked cities, crossed seas, Beaches and deserts, mountains and plains And to your house, street and patio Thanks to life that has given me much that gave me my heart that flutters in its cage When I see the fruit of the human kindness When I see good so far from bad, When I look deep in your eyes Thanks to life that has given me much Given me laughter and tears So to distinguish happiness from pain, The two things that form my song, And your song, is my song, A song for all, that is my own Thanks to life, ... |
I had never heard of Mercedes Sosa before my profe played this song in class. Mercedes' voice reminds de mi madre, not in the words that are sung, but in the sound and the emotion. Mercedes notes at the beginning of the song, that the words belong to Chilean poet Violeta Parra. The emotions are universal, el canto de todos.
Gracias para la canción. Mas... http://www.mercedessosa.com.ar/

No te va gustar - Chau
No te va gustar - it literally translates as you are not going to be pleased, pero me gusta "no pleasing you", which better expresses the feeling in English." Also known by its initials NTVG, this Uruguayan rock band formed in 1994 when most of the band was just 16.
"Chau" a familiar way to say bye among good friends, a variation of the Italian, "ciao".
Chau |
We were both looking at the sea when the afternoon died As ours died, I swear I did not know Look straight at me, I saw how you were missing I screamed with all my strength and I saw you didn't hear me I stayed all night in the arena Intended something worth the pain I can not get, change or correct What flows in my veins. Darling do not stop now You walked away one day, now you decided to return. It's been over a year and you're not Why should I believe you? I would have given their lives and more Just to see you again I could not afford to yield to your tears. I don't think opening wounds Of having loved you so much Listen but let it out I remembered everything that was free I can not get, change or correct What flows in my veins. Darling do not stop now You walked away one day, now you decided to return. Chau |
